Sotkamostraße in Isny
In Sotkamo’s twin town Isny in German, a significant event was recently celebrated as the official Sotkamo street was named in the city. This symbolic gesture further strengthens the close sister city cooperation between Sotkamo and Isny. Sotkamo Street serves as a tangible demonstration of the importance both municipalities place on their sister city collaboration.
The friendship and municipal cooperation between Sotkamo and Isny have significantly intensified in recent years, marked by various visits and collaborations between the two municipalities. For instance, this year, Sotkamo hosted administrative intern Anna Strotmann, and a delegation from Sotkamo visited Isny during the summer. Cultural exchanges, including an exhibition planned for next summer in Sotkamo, are also in preparation.
Merja Ojalammi, Director of Educational and Cultural Services, expresses joy at Isny’s gesture, stating, “Friend cities are significant international ties that enrich the life of the municipality in many ways. They provide an opportunity to learn about new cultures, build friendships worldwide, and strengthen Sotkamo’s position as an international operator. Internationality is a value that should not be underestimated, especially in the current global situation, where collaboration and understanding are invaluable.”
The naming ceremony of Sotkamo Street in Isny’s city center was celebrated with, among other things, tasting Finnish cinnamon buns. Those present at the naming ceremony had the opportunity to embark on a flavour journey to Finland, enjoying traditional Finnish delicacies at the coffee table. Finnish cinnamon buns were well-received, adding a touch of northern atmosphere to the celebration.
